For the Life of the World

“And the Word was made flesh.” Mother Angelica has a profound love for these powerful words. which have had an immeasurable impact on her life. Here at Our Lady of the Angels we have a special reason to rejoice on this feast – it is the Feastday of our Reverend Mother Mary Angelica of the Annunciation! We can certainly give thanks again and again for all that God has done through her faithful ‘yeses’ through the years (and they are numerous!) We especially look forward to spending some time with her as a community on her big day, to share with her some laughs, some smiles and perhaps a song. The Feast of the Annunciation is an fitting day to celebrate someone who has brought the Word of God to so many!
The mystery of the Annunciation and the Incarnation! God and man are forever united in and through Christ. Beautiful too, is the realization that Mary perfectly fulfilled what God had ordained for her. Having been prepared from the moment of her conception, free of sin for this Divine Gift, she fully corresponds to the designs of God. She was a woman who had ‘meditated on the law of the Lord’, who knew the history of salvation yet unfolding, and the promises of God contained in the Torah. Mary’s consent was full, entire, self-emptying, total. And in place of that unconditional surrender, she received God Himself. She is an unparalleled exemplar for all of us in hearing and receiving the Word, believing what God has said, and responding in turn. The challenge for us is passing on the great treasures of our faith that we have been given without distorting them, without watering down, without compromising either love or truth. So let us receive & let us give! What more does this broken and aching world need but the Word of God and His presence among us?

I am new to the Catholic faith but find immense peace in spite of my eagerness to see and do everything. I'm a wife and mother of two teenage boys, a writer and artist, but I find the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in so many unexpected places. I have hope again.

The Virgin Mary is more than the mother of God. She is a model for women everywhere. While in my younger days I made bad choices but I have corrected as many as I kind and my husband and I will be together 31 years this May.

As I look at the young women my sons date and befriend, I'm aware of my position as a mentor to them. There are so many young women at the high school behaving inappropriately and engaging in dangerous behavior, that I say many prayers while on campus.

And the Word was made Flesh. I place myself and my family in his hands and the hands of Mary.

Amen

For me the feast of the Annunciation is also a testimony of the importance of celebrating new life in the womb. The Annunciation is such a wonderful meditation.......the fact that Mary said yes helps us to accept new life which is God's will. Then when "the word was made flesh" comes up, it is even more significant. God himself was incarnated in the womb of Mary ! A unique moment in which those women who discover they are pregnant can share with Our Lady the experience and importance of new life beginning in their wombs. Just as the power of the most high overshadowed Mary at the moment of the conception of Jesus, we too can feel that the Holy Spirit was present at the moment we conceived a child. I love the first joyful mystery of the rosary, The Annunciation !! Dearest Mother Angelica, Happy Feastday !! What a wonderful day to have for a feastday . We love you so much and so does Jesus..

I am 46 years old and had I have known of Mother Angelica or had cable TV to watch EWTN my life would have been a lot different. I am now in the process of becoming a Catholic with only a few months to go and I owe it all to Mother Angelica! I found her on You Tube and fell in love with her and her teachings. I now watch EWTN all the time and have read everything I could on the Catholic Faith and Mother Angelica. I pray the Rosary as she stated we should everyday. God Bless you Mother Angelica and Thank you Dear Jesus for bringing her to us. I am so excited to say that I will be at the Monastery on the 19th and 20th to attend the services and celebrate Mother's Birthday. Words could never explain how greatful I am to Jesus, our Blessed Mother Mary and to Mother Angelica!
